Description: Did you know that April is national poetry month? Bring your favorite nature themed poems for a fun filled morning digging buffelgrass from a beautiful part of the Tucson Mountains in Saguaro National Park! The hike is less than 2 miles along an unmaintained social trail with gradual elevational gain. The work will be done at the base of Panther Peak and provides dramatic, sweeping views. Frankie will serenade you with desert themed poetry to motivate and inspire.
Meeting Location: Exact meeting location will be shared after signing up. A private residence a short drive from the Cam-Boh Trailhead parking area in Picture Rocks.

Description: We will spend the morning digging out buffelgrass and saving saguaros. Buffelgrass is the Number One Enemy of our beloved iconic saguaros! Help ensure their continued existence in Catalina State Park by removing it. Buffelgrass also crowds out spring wildflowers and steals moisture from palo verde nurse trees.
Meeting Location: Meet at the Equestrian Center in the Park. Take the first left after the big wash crossing and proceed past the Campground Loops to the end of the road. Park on the left by the corrals. Meet at the picnic area/ 50 Year Trailhead. Exact location of dig will be determined by weather and group size.

Additional Information: We supply the tools and gloves. We will have a baby saguaro to raffle, and we have colorful T-shirts for our 5 time repeat participants. Get into the park for free! Expect to hike at least 30 minutes and work on rough, rocky slopes. This activity requires a moderate fitness level.
**We have need for a few volunteers during the summer to monitor for green-up of buffelgrass in a few patches near trailheads. If you like to hike in the cool morning hours during monsoon season, this may be a job for you. This opportunity comes with a free day pass.

Description: Come join us on a buffelgrass pull in the Pantano Wash! This will be the last one of the season for this location, so hope to see you out there for one more opportunity to clean up the wash. Volunteers should be comfortable with uneven terrain and working in the heat. When we're finished, snacks and drinks will be provided.
Meeting Location: We will depart from the south end of the Kolb Executive Park parking lot. From there, there will be a ~10 minute walk along the Loop and into the wash to reach the buffelgrass.

Description: Help pull buffelgrass from areas surrounding the sheep grazing pens. Only those who volunteer, and are gentle, will have permission to get closer to the animals. You will be using a small pick to dig out clumps of grass.
Meeting Location: Usually we will meet at the lower parking lot of Sentinel Peak Park, but the location could vary. Pay attention to the message being sent out regarding exact location and time.

Additional Information: As mentioned before, there are not specific dates and times yet. Some will be morning, some will be afternoon. When we come up with times, we will send a message a few days ahead of time to all that are interested and whoever is able to show up joins us that day.

Description: We begin this effort by tackling areas across the Rillito this fall (2024) where there have been documented sightings of Arundo, and we need your help to stop the spread and keep it out of our creeks! At this event, we will focus our efforts on picking up trash and removing a few small stands of Arundo in the creek area, easily accessible from the Loop so you can join us by bike or you may even be close enough to walk.
We will bring everything you need to participate in this effort to pick up trash and remove the invasive species, but you are welcome to bring your own supplies as well! We recommend bringing your favorite set of gloves, a water bottle, and loppers if you have them.
Meeting Location: We will meet near the Diamond St Loop entrance north of the Rillito, on Craycroft Rd.
